Job Description

The Network Engineer will be a highly motivated and proactive individual who takes ownership of our EV Charging Point Management System (CPMS) and wider EV fleet infrastructure. This is a key role within a rapidly growing organisation, providing an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact while supporting business continuity during a period of maternity leave.

You will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, uptime, and efficiency of our EV charging network, acting as a technical lead between internal teams, clients, OEM partners, and engineering colleagues. While occasional support for reactive call-outs may be required, the primary focus of the role is to resolve issues remotely through effective system management, automation, and fault diagnosis.

This fixed-term opportunity is ideal for an experienced Network Engineer who enjoys working autonomously, solving complex technical challenges, and driving continuous improvement across systems and processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the EV Charging Point Management System (CPMS) and wider fleet EV infrastructure estate.
  • Monitor and maintain optimum system performance, reliability, and uptime.
  • Diagnose and resolve faults remotely, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
  • Act as the technical liaison between clients, OEM partners, engineering teams, and internal stakeholders.
  • Support the development and improvement of system processes, automation, and operational efficiencies.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation and reporting.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Job Requirements

Essential:

  • Strong track record of diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues remotely.
  • Experience designing, building, and maintaining APIs or system integrations.
  • Confident working with networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, VPNs, firewalls, routing, and switching.
  • Experience working in operational or service-critical environments with uptime responsibility.
  • Degree in Network Engineering, Computer Science, IT, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline – or equivalent practical experience.
  • ITIL Foundation or service management awareness is beneficial.
  • Experience collaborating with field engineering teams and external partners.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid UK Driving Licence
  • Flexibility in working hours and approach, an attitude to see a task through

Desirable:

  • Experience working directly with OEMs or hardware manufacturers.
  • Experience managing firmware, configuration, or interoperability across multiple OEM vendors.
  • Experience with CPMS platforms, OCPP, OCPI, or similar protocols.
  • Experience within EV charging, energy, utilities, or smart infrastructure sectors.
  • Experience with automation, scripting, or platform optimisation.

Job Responsibilities

  • Take full ownership of the CPMS platform and associated EV charging infrastructure network.
  • Monitor, manage, and optimise performance across the client EV estate to ensure maximum uptime and efficiency.
  • Diagnose and resolve the majority of faults remotely through the CPMS system.
  • Diagnose faults and coordinate with planners and engineers
  • Design, build, and maintain APIs and system integrations between platforms.
  • Act as the technical escalation point for complex network and system issues.
  • Work closely with field engineers during reactive call-outs, providing technical guidance and root cause analysis.
  • Work directly with OEM partners to manage interoperability, firmware, configuration, and platform integration.
  • Develop, document, and continuously improve operational processes and workflows.
  • Analyse network and charger performance data to proactively prevent faults.
  • Support onboarding of new charging sites and clients into the CPMS environment.
  • Contribute to future team structure, training, and capability as the estate grows.
