CS&A Principal Engineer

Overview
You lead and support a multi-discipline JV design and site engineering team on nuclear projects. You’ll engage with on-site and office-based teams to review design submissions, coordinate safety case-related activities, and ensure alignment with standards. The role combines technical leadership with on-site presence to drive delivery and risk management. This is a chance to influence major nuclear builds and decommissioning work within a safety-critical environment.
Responsibilities- Report to CSA RE daily and provide leadership to the JV CSA design and site engineering team
- Attend the Warrington office at least 3 days per week and visit Sellafield regularly to engage with the JV construction team
- Review, comment on, and sign design submissions; process PMACD submissions
- Review and determine acceptance of TQ/PP submissions
- Monitor progress of structural detail drawings, calculations, and documentation through to As Built status
- Demonstrate understanding of service supports, blockwork substantiation, and fire strategy concepts (preferred)
- Interface with the multi-discipline design team and liaise with SL Capability to resolve site issues
- Support Safety Case work including DJRs and external works design reviews
- Review external works interfaces with building envelope and drainage details
- Engage with construction teams on site and attend weekly risk reviews; participate in EWNs
- Visit site weekly and conduct/site walkdowns to address CS&A construction issues
- Liaise with SL Site Utilities and Infrastructure Capability to secure buy-in to contractor proposals
- Civil / Structural Engineering Degree, or equivalent
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) – MICE or MIStructE
- Demonstrable expertise in major project areas with proven specialist knowledge
- Ability to provide strategic guidance across a project portfolio
- Proven leadership capability within an engineering function
- Experience in the Nuclear Sector (new build and decommissioning)
- Strong understanding of design principles and ability to apply them
- Working knowledge of British Standards
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Full UK driving licence (or equivalent permitting driving in the UK)
