Customer Solutions Architect

Armstrong Talent Partners

Blantyre · Scotland · United Kingdom

The client is the fastest growing technology company in Scotland, with plans to deploy and invest over £2 billion in the coming years. You would be joining at an exciting stage of that growth, with the opportunity to help shape how we design, deliver and operate large-scale infrastructure environments.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Technical Architect to take technical ownership of a large and complex customer infrastructure estate and lead its ongoing stabilisation, remediation and transformation.

This is a technically focused architecture role for someone with strong infrastructure depth across compute, storage, networking, backup and disaster recovery.

You will take an existing environment through service take‑on, hyper care, remediation and transformation, establishing a clear target architecture and then working with engineering and delivery teams to turn that architecture into robust, supportable technical solutions.

The environment includes a largely dedicated infrastructure estate alongside managed services hosted on their platforms. You will be responsible for understanding how these technologies fit together, identifying technical risks and weaknesses, designing improvements and ensuring the resulting environment is scalable, resilient, secure and operationally supportable.

You will need to be comfortable operating at both high‑level architecture and detailed technical design level, producing and reviewing HLDs and LLDs and being able to challenge technical decisions where required.

This is not a purely strategic architecture position. We are looking for someone who can get into the technology, understand how it works, make sound architectural decisions and provide technical direction through implementation.

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure Architecture & Technical Ownership

  • Take technical ownership of the architecture across a large, complex infrastructure estate.
  • Develop and maintain the target architecture across compute, storage, networking, backup and disaster recovery .
  • Assess existing infrastructure and identify technical debt, risks, performance issues and opportunities for improvement.

Infrastructure Transformation

You will lead the technical architecture through a significant programme of stabilisation and transformation, including:

  • Service take‑on and technical due diligence
  • Hyper care and technical stabilisation
  • Migration planning and execution
  • Platform consolidation and rationalisation
  • Decommissioning of legacy infrastructure
  • Migration waves and service cutovers

You will work closely with engineering and delivery teams to ensure designs are technically sound, achievable and supportable.

Skills & Experience

We are looking for someone with significant experience in infrastructure architecture, ideally gained within an MSP, CSP, data centre, cloud or large enterprise environment.

You will ideally have:

  • Significant experience as an Infrastructure Architect, Lead Infrastructure Architect, Principal Architect, Solutions Architect or Technical Architect.
  • Strong technical depth across compute, storage, networking, backup and disaster recovery.
  • Experience designing and transforming large-scale enterprise infrastructure environments.
  • Strong VMware / virtualisation experience.
  • Strong enterprise storage and SAN knowledge.
  • Good understanding of backup and recovery technologies.
  • Experience designing resilient and highly available infrastructure.
  • Experience with data centre environments and infrastructure transformation.
  • Proven experience producing HLDs and LLDs.
  • Experience taking technical ownership of complex infrastructure programmes.
  • Experience working through transition, migration, remediation and transformation programmes.
  • Strong understanding of operational and Day‑2 requirements.
  • The ability to assess an existing environment, identify problems and develop a realistic target architecture.
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to understand infrastructure costs, licensing and bills of materials.
  • Experience working with engineering and delivery teams to take designs through to implementation.

Technical Breadth

You don't need to be the deepest specialist in every technology, but you should be able to confidently understand and architect across multiple infrastructure domains.
