Title: Data & AI Architect

Location : London, UK (hybrid; client sites as needed)

About the role

We are hiring a hands-on Data & AI Architect who wins deals and then delivers them. You will shape solutions with UK and European clients, then lead the architecture of the engagements you helped sell.

The role sits at the centre of our Microsoft partnership. Most work runs on Azure, Microsoft Fabric and Copilot. You will also design on AWS, Snowflake and Databricks when the client's estate calls for it.

You will work closely with sales leaders, Microsoft account teams, client CXOs and our offshore delivery centers.

Pre-sales and solutioning

  • Lead discovery workshops with client CXOs, CDOs and data leaders to find high-value data and AI use cases.
  • Design target-state architectures for data platforms, analytics and AI, and present them to technical and business audiences.
  • Own the technical response to RFPs and RFIs: solution design, effort estimates, assumptions, risks and commercial inputs.
  • Build proofs of concept, demos and pilots that show value fast, especially on Fabric, Azure AI Foundry and Copilot.
  • Run joint pursuits with Microsoft account teams, including co-sell motions and partner-funded programmes (ECIF, MDF, Fabric and AI accelerators).
  • Write points of view and reference architectures that sales teams can reuse.

Delivery and technical leadership

  • Act as lead architect on major engagements, from mobilisation to go-live and handover.
  • Own the end-to-end design: ingestion, lakehouse or warehouse, semantic models, governance, MLOps and GenAI or agentic layers.
  • Lead migrations and modernisation from legacy platforms to cloud
  • Set architecture standards, design reviews and quality gates across onshore and offshore teams.
  • Put data governance, security and responsible AI in place, including Purview, data quality, lineage and model risk controls.
  • Make sure designs meet UK and EU rules, including UK GDPR, the EU AI Act and, for financial services clients, FCA and PRA expectations.
  • Manage technical risk, scope changes and client stakeholders, and spot follow-on opportunities.

Practice and partnership contribution

  • Help grow the UK Data & AI practice: offerings, accelerators, reusable assets and case studies.
  • Support Microsoft partner designations and specializations (Data & AI, Analytics on Azure, AI Platform) through certifications and referenceable wins.
  • Build working relationships with Microsoft, AWS, Snowflake and Databricks partner teams in the UK.
  • Mentor architects and engineers, and help with hiring for the practice.
  • Represent Sonata at partner events, webinars and industry forums.

Experience and qualifications

  • 12+ years in data and analytics, with 5+ years as a solution or enterprise architect.
  • A track record in both pre-sales and delivery at a consultancy, systems integrator or Microsoft partner.
  • Has led at least two large data platform programmes end to end (typically £2m+).
  • Has delivered GenAI or ML solutions into production, not just pilots.
  • Has led multi-site teams across onshore and offshore locations.
  • Strong written and spoken communication; comfortable presenting to C-level audiences.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Experience in BFSI, retail and CPG, or manufacturing in the UK or Europe.
  • Microsoft certifications: Fabric Analytics Engineer (DP-600), Fabric Data Engineer (DP-700), Azure AI Engineer (AI-102), Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305).
  • Partner certifications: AWS Solutions Architect, SnowPro Advanced Architect, Databricks Data Engineer Professional.
  • Familiarity with Dynamics 365 data (Dataverse, Synapse Link) and SAP data integration.
  • A degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or a related field, or equivalent experience.
