Data Analyst – BI Specialist, Contract

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, datasets, and data models
• Write, review, and tune SQL queries, views, and stored procedures against ERP and in-house application databases
• Develop and maintain Crystal Reports and support report users
• Translate management requests into defined reporting requirements and confirm definitions before building
• Apply consistent visual design to reports and dashboards
• Administer reporting infrastructure on Windows Server, including scheduled jobs, permissions, service accounts, file shares, and report distribution
• Contribute light HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap front-end work and embed reports and dashboards into application pages
• Prepare presentation materials, one-page summaries, and project status reports for management and senior management
• Use Git and GitHub for version control of report definitions, SQL, and related code
• Verify reported figures against source systems and investigate discrepancies
• Document data sources, report definitions, measures, and reporting processes
• Provide training and support to report consumers throughout the organization
• Use AI-assisted tools responsibly and remain accountable for delivered queries, measures, and figures
• Perform analysis and reporting tasks as required
• Work alongside full stack developers and a project coordinator at Tayco's Etobicoke facility

Requirements

• Must have post-secondary education in business intelligence, computer science, information systems, statistics, or a related field, or 3-5 years of industry experience in a business intelligence or data analysis role
• Must have demonstrated proficiency with Power BI, including data modelling, DAX measures, Power Query, report design, and management of publishing and scheduled refreshes
• Must have strong SQL skills, including joins, aggregation, window functions, views, and query performance tuning against relational databases
• Experience developing and maintaining Crystal Reports is required
• Working knowledge of Windows Server administration for reporting, including scheduled tasks, permissions, service accounts, file shares, and report distribution
• Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap for small changes to existing web application pages and report embedding
• Must be able to use Git and GitHub for version control, including branching, pull requests, and code review
• Must be able to use AI-assisted tools effectively and with judgement
• Ability to apply sound visual design judgement to reporting
• Ability to gather reporting requirements from management and confirm intent before building
• Ability to present findings clearly to non-technical audiences
• Ability to investigate questionable figures and trace them to source systemsAbility to work effectively within a small cross‑functional team

Core Competencies

Proficient in Power BI report design, data modeling, and SQL query optimization, with a strong ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions. Experienced in Windows Server administration and capable of delivering clear presentations to non-technical stakeholders.
