Data Engineer

We are looking for a Data Engineer to help build reliable, scalable data platforms that support real-world decision making across advanced technology and secure environments.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex data problems, working across a variety of technologies, and contributing to projects involving analytics, machine learning and AI. You will join a collaborative, hands-on engineering team where curiosity, ownership and clear communication are highly valued.

What you will be doing

• Designing and building data pipelines for ingesting, transforming and processing complex datasets
• Working with both structured and unstructured data sources
• Supporting analytics, machine learning and AI workflows with trusted, timely data
• Collaborating with engineers, analysts and project stakeholders to deliver practical solutions
• Breaking work into manageable, testable increments and contributing to an agile delivery approach
• Continuously improving data quality, reliability and operational efficiency

Essential skills and experience:

• Strong understanding of data modelling, processing and transformation
• Comfortable working with structured and unstructured data
• Ability to learn new tools and adapt to unfamiliar technical domains
• Clear communication skills and a collaborative mindset
• Experience contributing to team ceremonies and delivery activities
• Ability to work independently and deliver incrementally

Desirable skills and experience:

• Experience with Python, SQL, Spark or similar technologies
• Knowledge of data pipelines, batch processing or streaming architectures
• Exposure to cloud platforms and/or secure environments
• Experience working on exploratory, R&D or early-stage projects
• Interest in AI-enabled systems, public sector technology or national security programmes
• Desire to influence data architecture, delivery planning and team growth
