Data Engineer

In this role you will design and build scalable data pipelines and analytics solutions within Version 1, partnering with project teams to transform data into actionable insights. You will work across the Microsoft Azure data ecosystem to deliver reports, dashboards and data models that support strategic decisions. You’ll optimise data processes for performance, ensure governance and GDPR compliance, and mentor teams in an Agile environment. This is a hands-on role at a data-driven services provider helping customers unlock enterprise analytics at scale.

• Design, develop and maintain scalable data pipelines, data models and data warehouse solutions
• Build and support ETL/ELT processes integrating data from multiple sources
• Develop and maintain solutions using Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse and Power BI
• Analyse complex datasets to identify trends, anomalies and actionable insights
• Create dashboards, reports and analytics to support decision-making
• Design and optimise complex data models and datasets
• Use Python and SQL for data manipulation and analysis
• Support and enhance existing data solutions as they scale
• Optimise code, queries, pipelines and processes for performance and reliability
• Perform root cause analysis on data quality and data processing issues
• Identify opportunities to reuse and improve existing data flows and solutions
• Use Azure DevOps for Boards, Repos, Pipelines and Test Plans; manage build/release processes
• Apply data standards, governance and GDPR; work in an Agile delivery environment

• 4–6 years' experience in a data-focused role (Data Specialist, Data Engineering)
• At least 2 years in a lead capacity
• Strong hands-on Azure Data Factory experience
• Strong Azure Synapse experience
• Strong Power BI or equivalent BI/reporting experience
• Advanced SQL and database experience
• Experience using Python for data manipulation and analysis
• Strong understanding of ETL/ELT and data pipelines
• Experience designing data warehouses and data architectures
• Strong data modelling with complex datasets
• Experience with Azure DevOps and CI/CD processes
• Strong data analysis and problem-solving abilities
• Experience with data visualisation and reporting
• Experience in Agile teams
• Knowledge of data governance and GDPR
• Strong stakeholder communication and collaboration skills
• Microsoft certification in Data Analysis or Data Engineering (or equivalent)
• Primary degree in a Technology/IT discipline (NFQ Level 7 or equivalent)
• English proficiency (native or CEFR C2)
