Overview

In this role you will help shape HMCTS data governance and data management practices to underpin strategic, data-driven decisions. You will collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and operations to mature master/reference data, data dictionaries, and data catalogs, while ensuring data quality and compliance with governance standards. You’ll contribute to designing data models and improving data workflows across the organisation, enabling reliable reporting and actionable insights. The position offers meaningful public service work at scale, with opportunities to influence how data supports justice operations.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and promote a strategic master and reference data management capability
  • Design and implement data dictionary and cataloguing tools
  • Improve data quality and establish metrics to verify standards
  • Implement and monitor QA/testing frameworks for reliable data
  • Collaborate on data models to support reporting requirements
  • Promote uptake of new data technologies and maintain data documentation
  • Document data extracts, data flows, and lineage
  • Collaborate with data engineering to test and release code/scripts; assess risks
  • Contribute to change management processes for data governance
  • Ensure compliance with data governance standards and RBAC procedures
  • Represent the organisation in meetings with stakeholders
  • Provide feedback on data platform operations and data quality
Key requirements
  • Data management and data governance experience
  • Understanding of GDPR and data governance principles
  • Continuous professional development in data management technologies and best practices
  • Experience documenting data workflows, complex definitions, and business rules
  • Experience with data and databases, ideally in a Data Warehouse environment
  • Experience with ETL and data integration, including data transformation and loading
  • Ability to work with operational and analytical teams to define data requirements
  • Effective communication with cross-functional teams
  • Proactive and flexible stakeholder engagement
  • Ability to handle prioritisation and difficult conversations
