Overview

In this role you will support the Nomis data service, ensuring reliable data delivery in a live production environment. You will work within a small team to process datasets, maintain databases and reference tables, and perform quality checks and releases. You’ll deepen experience with structured data processing, SQL, Python, Linux and data quality, contributing to a nationally significant service with broad external impact. You can work flexibly, including remote and on-site.

Responsibilities
  • Manage ETL pipelines for Nomis data extraction, transformation and loading
  • Update databases and reference tables; perform data quality checks and testing
  • Coordinate dataset releases and related update activities
  • Collaborate with ONS data providers, Nomis customers and internal teams to ensure data integrity
  • Develop and improve data processing routines and QA scripts
  • Provide specialist data guidance to colleagues and stakeholders
  • Monitor and report risks and contingencies on projects
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of processes and documentation
  • Assist with customer support related to datasets and technical duties
  • Support planning, testing and deployment activities for data services
Key requirements
  • Numerate degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience in data operations and structured data processing
  • Experience delivering ETL projects with large numerical datasets
  • Ability to provide specialist guidance to customers and colleagues
  • Experience implementing policies and process improvements
  • Excellent written and spoken communication; ability to build relationships
  • Strong digital skills: Linux shell scripting, Python, SQL, and spreadsheets
  • Commitment to professional development and data protection knowledge
  • Ability to solve problems and lead data processing and dissemination projects
