Overview

As a Database Engineer at Viridien, you design, maintain and optimise MongoDB and relational database platforms to support global production systems and HPC workloads. You will collaborate with software and infrastructure teams to ensure secure, scalable, and highly available data services. You will drive performance improvements and reliability across data platforms that power critical applications. This role combines hands-on database administration with automation and continuous improvement, in a mission-driven environment focused on sustainability and data-intensive innovation.

Responsibilities
  • Manage MongoDB and relational environments, including sharded clusters and replica sets
  • Administer PostgreSQL and related databases, including backups and recovery
  • Monitor health and performance with Prometheus, Grafana and MongoDB Ops Manager; optimise queries and configurations
  • Implement backup, PITR, and HA strategies; ensure production reliability and business continuity
  • Collaborate with development teams to improve data models and application performance; support testing and QA for DB changes
  • Contribute to automation and best practices in database operations
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
  • Production experience administering MongoDB (sharded clusters, replica sets)
  • Experience with PostgreSQL or other enterprise relational databases
  • Experience with MongoDB Ops Manager and monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana)
  • Strong knowledge of backup, recovery, PITR, and High Availability strategies
  • Troubleshooting and performance tuning of databases
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; ability to work in production-critical environments
