Overview

As Deployment Engineer, you will support the rollout of automation assets across Royal Mail sites, coordinating installation, commissioning, and testing to ensure safe, on-time delivery. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to align designs with program plans and produce site surveys and CAD layouts. The role emphasizes safety, CDM compliance, and hands-on problem solving during early-life support to meet performance targets. This is a chance to shape automated operations within the UK postal network and contribute to ongoing transformation.

Responsibilities
  • Support deployment and integration of automation technologies across multiple sites
  • Coordinate installation activities with suppliers, engineering specialists, project managers, and operational teams
  • Assist with site risk management and ensure CDM compliance and safety standards
  • Create site surveys and 2D/3D CAD layouts for conveyors, sorting systems, and robotics
  • Contribute to installation planning, design reviews, and provide technical support during production, installation, commissioning and testing
  • Assist with performance monitoring, root cause analysis, and issue resolution during commissioning and early-life
  • Support handover documentation and compliance checks to ensure safe and effective asset introduction
Key requirements
  • Recognised qualification in engineering, technical or scientific discipline (Level 4 or 5 e.g. HNC/HND)
  • Experience supporting installation and commissioning of automation or material-handling systems
  • Experience on construction or engineering deployment sites, ideally under CDM regulations
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and other CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor)
  • Competence with project documentation tools (MS Project, SharePoint, Jira)
  • Desirable accreditation from a professional body (Eng Tech or Incorporated)
