The Town of Petawawa is seeking applications for a current vacancy of Deputy Treasurer for the Finance Department to perform the statutory duties of the Treasurer under the Municipal Act and other Acts/Regulations of the Legislature in the absence of the Director of Finance/Treasurer, or when the Treasurer is unable to act, and ensures that municipal financial services are provided in an effective and efficient manner.
Description of Position:
- Assists with the management of the financial software system
- Assists with monthly internal reporting
- Assists with the preparation of operating and capital budgets
- Assists with financial and analytical reporting, costing/scenario modelling and other financial analysis
- Ensures that payroll and benefit programs are administered in accordance with Town policy and pertinent legislation
- Assists in the preparation of working papers for the year-end audit
- Prepares adjusting journal entries as required
- Responds to internal and external inquiries
- Produces mandatory government reports and/or returns as required
- Participates in tendering and contracting processes involving expenditures or acquisitions as required
- Attends Council and other meetings as required
- May perform temporary coverage for other finance positions
- Performs all other related duties as assigned by the Treasurer

Qualifications:
- Minimum of five years relevant work experience, ideally in a municipal environment
- Knowledge of accounting principles and best practices including strategic and financial planning & analysis
- Must demonstrate advanced analytical, consultative and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop and recommend effective solutions
- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate both orally and in writing with all levels of staff, Council, and the public, in an efficient, diplomatic and understandable manner
- Must have advanced working knowledge of computerized financial applications; proficiency in MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point)
Assets:
- Post secondary diploma/degree in Business Administration with a major in accounting or equivalent
- To hold or to be in the process of obtaining a CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) designation
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and practices and Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) standards
- Experience administering employee programs (eg. benefits, performance management, staffing, training, etc.)
- Experience working in a unionized environment
- Completion of AMCTO’s Municipal Accounting & Finance Program or Municipal Administration Program
Compensation & Hours of Work:
$75,184.20 to $88,470.20 per annum, commensurate with qualifications and experience and is based on a 35 hour work week, plus a comprehensive health benefits plan, including health care spending account and OMERS pension.
