Overview

In this EO/IR Systems Engineer role, you will contribute to the full lifecycle of advanced EO/IR technologies and systems for military applications. You will work within the Electronics UK business, aligning with the Advanced Targeting sector in Edinburgh to deliver high-performance solutions. You’ll engage in requirements capture, modelling, and V&V activities, and mentor junior engineers to raise capability across the team. The role emphasizes collaboration across Integrated Project Teams, continual learning, and process improvement to ensure system performance meets tight expectations. This is a hands-on position with a clear impact on technology, capability, and mission readiness.

Responsibilities
  • Capture, define, model, manufacture, test, validate and verify EO/IR technologies and systems
  • Mentor early-career engineers within the team and across the business
  • Improve and apply engineering processes across the full lifecycle
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in AIT and V&V activities for EO/IR equipment
  • Promote continual learning and act as a change agent for systems engineering
  • Plan and execute structured V&V activities to demonstrate EO/IR system performance
Key requirements
  • Degree level qualification (or equivalent) in systems engineering, physics, or a related technical discipline
  • Must satisfy security clearance for the role
  • Minimum of 5 years permanent residency in the UK
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Tenacity and determination
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong numerical, analytic and problem-solving abilities supporting systems thinking
  • Experience with systems engineering methods, tools and processes
  • Experience with integration, verification and validation of EO/IR systems and technologies
