Design System Product Owner

In this role you drive the design system strategy and its adoption across a multidisciplinary squad of 30+ teammates, aligning design, development and platform efforts with Barclays’ product roadmaps. You balance product vision with technical governance, delivering user‑centric, accessible digital experiences at scale. You lead agile delivery, foster cross‑functional collaboration, and continuously improve design system quality and performance. This position offers impact across customer and colleague experiences within Barclays’ ecosystem.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with product owners and technical teams to enact the product roadmap using bank technologies
- Provide subject matter expertise to align product development with strategy
- Gather and prioritise requirements based on business value, feasibility, measurability, and security
- Develop assessments for continuous testing and performance improvement
- Monitor product performance and identify opportunities for optimisation
- Stay updated on industry tech trends to adopt better development approaches
- Define and communicate product strategy, own and prioritise the backlog for high-impact capabilities
- Lead agile delivery excellence and foster cross-functional collaboration
- Drive adoption of the design system across design, engineering, and platform squads
- Ensure accessibility, component-based architecture, and design-to-code workflows are applied
- Coordinate cross-platform release/versioning to minimise downstream impact
- Influence stakeholders and drive large-scale adoption initiatives
- Support governance models and operating principles to ensure scalable consistency
- Communicate complex information effectively

- Strong ownership of Agile and Scrum practices (backlog management, roadmap planning, product strategy)
