In this Technical Director role, you will lead development transport planning within a multidisciplinary planning and development team, driving new business, client engagement, and technical leadership. You will shape growth in the North East and nationally, overseeing bids and major commissions while upholding WSP’s values of technical excellence and collaboration. You’ll work closely with stakeholders to align projects with sustainable development goals and client needs. This is a high-impact opportunity to influence market strategy and deliver complex transport solutions at scale.

Responsibilities
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities to grow market share for the Development team
  • Engage with Regional Director and local office lead to set growth targets and plans
  • Build trusted relationships with public/private sector clients and planning authorities
  • Provide technical advice through planning and design processes
  • Lead and coordinate bids, reviewing submissions for commercial and technical value
  • Act as Project Director for major projects and strategic commissions
  • Support SHEQ and Corporate Responsibility considerations across the team
  • Promote coordination across the Development team and share market intelligence and best practices
Key requirements
  • Degree level qualification in transport planning or civil engineering
  • Chartered status
  • Commercial and strategic capability with a proven track record in delivering new business
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership and management skills
  • Proven track record of winning work
  • Broad range of relevant project experience
