DevOps Engineer

Application Deadline: 29 October 2026

Department: Software Engineering

Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time

Location: London

Reporting To: DevOps Lead

Description

We’re looking for a mid-level DevOps Engineer to join our engineering team and help us build, automate, and scale the AWS infrastructure that underpins our products. You’ll work closely with development, platform, and security teams to improve deployment velocity, system reliability, and operational visibility.

This is a hands‑on role for someone who is comfortable owning infrastructure as code, maintaining CI/CD pipelines, and championing automation and observability across the software delivery lifecycle. We place a high value on clear, well‑maintained documentation, and you’ll be expected to document your work to a standard that helps the whole team. You’ll have enough autonomy to make meaningful technical decisions, with the support of a senior team to grow into.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, maintain, and improve CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) to enable fast, safe, and repeatable deployments.
  • Manage and evolve AWS infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform & Terragrunt).
  • Operate and scale containerised workloads on EKS, alongside serverless workloads on Lambda.
  • Design, secure, and maintain AWS networking — VPCs, subnets, security groups, routing, and load balancing.
  • Manage relational databases on RDS and Aurora, including performance, backups, and resilience.
  • Handle secrets and sensitive configuration securely using AWS Secrets Manager.
  • Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting to ensure system health and rapid incident response (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, ELK, Datadog).
  • Collaborate with development teams to improve deployment practices, environment consistency, and developer experience.
  • Contribute to security and compliance efforts — secrets management, patching, access control, and secure‑by‑default configurations.
  • Take part in our support and on‑call arrangements and help shape them as they mature.
  • Automate manual and repetitive operational tasks through scripting and tooling.
  • Produce and maintain clear, accurate documentation — architecture diagrams, runbooks, onboarding guides, and operational procedures — and champion a culture where knowledge is written down and shared rather than siloed.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

Essential Skills & Experience

  • 3+ years in a DevOps, SRE, Platform, or infrastructure‑focused engineering role.
  • Solid hands‑on experience with AWS.
  • Practical experience running Kubernetes in production, ideally EKS.
  • Experience building and deploying serverless functions with AWS Lambda.
  • Good working knowledge of AWS networking — VPCs, subnets, security groups, routing, and load balancing.
  • Experience operating relational databases on RDS and/or Aurora.
  • Experience managing secrets with AWS Secrets Manager (or equivalent).
  • Proficiency with Docker and containerised workflows.
  • Practical experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and Terragrunt.
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, ideally with GitHub Actions.
  • Strong scripting ability in at least one language (Bash, Python, or Go).
  • Good understanding of Linux systems administration and networking fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability tooling.
  • Comfortable working with Git and modern version control workflows.
  • A genuine commitment to good documentation — able to write clear, concise runbooks and technical docs that others can follow.
  • Willingness to take part in an on‑call rotation and contribute to a maturing support function.

Desirable

  • Relevant certifications (e.g. AWS Associate/Professional, CKA/CKAD, Terraform Associate).
  • Experience with service mesh, GitOps (ArgoCD/Flux), or progressive delivery.
  • Exposure to security and compliance frameworks (ISO 27001, SOC 2, or similar).
  • Experience with database backup/DR strategies and Aurora failover.
  • Experience establishing or improving on‑call and incident management processes.
  • Experience introducing or improving documentation practices (e.g. docs‑as‑code).
  • Understanding of cost optimisation and FinOps practices.

Job Benefits

  • Hybrid working arrangements
  • 26 days holiday (plus 8 public holidays)
  • Enhanced family friendly benefits
  • Private medical insurance
  • Onsite gym
  • A supportive and collaborative work culture
