The Opportunity
We are looking for a DevOps Engineer to join a major technology programme delivering services into a UK Government environment.
This is an initial 6-month contract with a strong likelihood of extension, based in Newcastle upon Tyne with a hybrid working arrangement of 3 days onsite and 2 days working from home.
The role would suit a DevOps Engineer with strong experience across AWS, CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code, particularly AWS CDK.
Security clearance is not required, although candidates who already hold active SC Clearance would be particularly welcomed.
Please note that sponsorship cannot be provided, so candidates must already have the right to work in the UK.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, maintain and improve cloud infrastructure within AWS
- Develop, maintain and optimise automated CI/CD pipelines
- Build and manage Infrastructure as Code using AWS CDK
- Support the deployment and operation of cloud-based applications and services
- Automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration and deployment
- Work closely with Software Engineers, Platform Engineers and wider technical teams
- Troubleshoot infrastructure, deployment and application issues
- Support monitoring, logging and overall platform reliability
- Implement DevOps, cloud engineering and security best practices
- Contribute to continuous improvements across development and deployment processes
- Work within the governance and security requirements of a UK Government environment
Core Technical Experience
Strong commercial experience with:
- Scripting and automation
Experience across some of the following would also be beneficial:
- AWS – EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, S3, IAM, VPC, CloudWatch and CloudFormation
- GitHub Actions / GitLab CI / Jenkins
- Monitoring and observability tooling
- Automated testing and deployment
- Cloud security and IAM
- Previous experience working on UK Government or public-sector programmes
- Experience within secure or highly regulated environments
- Strong understanding of cloud security and DevOps best practices
