DevOps Engineer - AWS | Central Government

Contract: Contract
Location: Predominantly remote with occasional/ad hoc travel to client sites
Clearance: Active SC Clearance required

The Role

We are looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer to join a major digital transformation programme for a Central Government client .

You will work within a cloud-native AWS and Java environment , helping to build, maintain and optimise the infrastructure, deployment pipelines and cloud platforms underpinning critical public-facing digital services.

The successful candidate will have strong Central Government/public sector experience alongside a proven background in DevOps, AWS cloud engineering, automation and modern agile delivery environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain infrastructure across AWS cloud environments .
• Build and support CI/CD pipelines to enable reliable and efficient software delivery.
• Automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration and deployment.
• Support Java-based applications and microservices .
• Implement monitoring, alerting and logging solutions to maintain platform reliability and performance.
• Support platform security, compliance and operational resilience.
• Troubleshoot infrastructure, deployment and performance issues across development and production environments.
• Promote DevOps best practice, automation and continuous improvement.
• Support disaster recovery, backup and business continuity activities.
• Collaborate closely with Architects, Developers, Security and Delivery teams.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Proven experience as a DevOps Engineer within large-scale digital transformation programmes.
• Strong Central Government/public sector experience .
• Significant hands-on experience with AWS .
• Strong Infrastructure as Code experience using Terraform, CloudFormation or similar .
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps or similar.
• Experience supporting Java-based applications and microservices architectures .
• Strong Linux administration and scripting skills using Bash, Python or similar.
• Experience with containerisation technologies including Docker and Kubernetes .
• Knowledge of monitoring and logging technologies such as CloudWatch, Grafana, ELK and Prometheus .
• Strong understanding of cloud security, networking and operational best practices .
