Overview

In this Lead Java Developer role you will shape software for citizen services, acting as a senior technical lead across teams. You will set strategic directions for product lines, promote engineering best practices, and mentor colleagues to raise the overall capability. You’ll design complex systems in collaboration with Architecture and drive reusable libraries and services. The position focuses on delivering high-quality software and managing risk, with a strong emphasis on leadership and cross-team collaboration in a government-facing context.

Responsibilities
  • Champion technical evolution and adopt emerging technologies across teams
  • Lead engineering communities to deliver the strategic product vision
  • Design and steer reusable libraries and services
  • Provide 3rd line support and out-of-hours assistance as required
  • Collaborate with large teams and key decision-makers to align on strategy
  • Recruit, mentor and develop engineering talent and career paths
  • Ensure usability, accessibility, security, stability and capacity in citizen services
  • Identify skills gaps and dependencies within product teams
  • Manage risk through effective planning and adherence to standards
  • Define guidelines and ensure adoption across teams and projects
Key requirements
  • Expert in software engineering with design, development and support experience
  • Ability to define medium-to-long term product strategies
  • Proven leadership in guiding engineering communities
  • Experience delivering complex software products in collaboration with Architecture
  • Strong capability to work with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
  • Experience with incident management and out-of-hours support as needed
  • Knowledge of governance, standards, and best practices in software development
  • Ability to coach, mentor and recruit engineering talent
  • Experience in government/public sector delivery (citizen services) is a plus
