Overview

As Director of Digital Programming, Weekends, you will shape the weekend homepage and front-door experiences across web, mobile web, and apps for a 24/7 global news organization. You lead a distributed editorial team, balance real-time editorial instincts with long-term strategy, and leverage data to optimize audience engagement. This role sits at the intersection of journalism, product thinking, and audience behavior, offering impact at scale. You will work closely with cross-functional partners to ensure timely, accurate, and engaging coverage that reflects our journalism’s urgency and depth.

Responsibilities
  • Lead editors programming home and front-door digital experiences (web, mobile web, app)
  • Guide programming strategy across formats (live video, text, audio, visuals)
  • Make real-time editorial decisions during breaking news and content hierarchy discussions
  • Ensure content aligns with core editorial values and user needs (Catch me up, Take me deeper, Entertain me)
  • Craft and approve strong headlines, teases, and promo language
  • Curate across live, text, visual, and video formats with sophisticated editorial judgment
  • Monitor real-time analytics and adjust placement with Audience, Data, and Research teams
  • Mentor a distributed editorial team with direction and growth opportunities
Key requirements
  • Extensive experience in digital journalism, audience programming, or editorial operations in fast-paced environments
  • Experience managing teams in a 24/7 publishing operation, ideally with global coordination
  • Ability to balance real-time instincts with long-term strategic thinking
  • Deep understanding of audience engagement and cross-platform storytelling (text, video, audio)
  • Experience collaborating with product and design teams to enhance storytelling on homepage surfaces
