Director - HV Cable System Design

As a Principal Cable System Engineer at Jacobs, you will lead HV/EHV cable design for high-profile energy projects up to 400 kV, from tender through handover. You’ll drive technical delivery across HV cable systems, coordinating with clients, suppliers, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure compliant, safe, and efficient designs. You’ll apply specialized calculations and reviews to shape robust cabling solutions and contribute to Jacobs’ energy transition goals. • Lead design delivery for Cable System Projects up to 400kV across stages from tender to handover
• Develop HV/EHV cabling system specifications and perform concept/detailed design and design reviews
• Prepare plant/equipment specs, power cable route specs, and tender/specifications; produce technical and progress reports
• Provide technical support on HV cable system engineering and design; interface with other engineering functions and stakeholders
• Perform technical calculations (cable size, rating, TMF/EMF, sheath-induced voltage) and verify design
• Ensure compliance with CDM regulations and company procedures; assist with temporary works design
• Maintain client/designer/supply chain relationships; manage information flow to avoid delays
• Oversee inspection/test plans, FAT support, and site quality checks; ensure constructibility and data completeness
• Promote health, safety, and environmental best practices; prepare risk assessments and method statements
• Advise on setting out methods and ensure information sufficiency for construction

• Degree in Electrical Power Engineering
• Experience in consultancy/contractor/utility within the energy sector
• Extensive experience in cable-related FEED/design roles
• Ability to lead HV/EHV cable designs at all project stages
• Proficiency with CYMCAP to support cable design
• Experience with EHV transmission voltages; HV and EHV cable system design for HVAC and HVDC
• Familiarity with National Grid and DNO standards and processes
• CDAE and TP141 authorisation
