Overview
As Director, you will lead the UK Financial Crime ML portfolio within a major bank, guiding fraud detection and transaction monitoring initiatives. You’ll shape technical direction, supervise a team of data scientists, and ensure models meet governance and operational needs. You’ll work with senior stakeholders across technology, compliance and business to select priorities and drive deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement. This role blends hands-on ML leadership with strategic delivery and governance to deliver reliable, bank-wide impact.
Responsibilities- Lead the Financial Crime ML portfolio from exploration to deployment and monitoring
- set technical direction and scale ML solutions
- review code and model design with a hands-on approach
- lead and develop a team of data scientists
- collaborate with senior stakeholders to prioritize problems
- ensure models comply with governance and control requirements
- drive delivery standards and responsible ML practices
- communicate technical decisions effectively to non-technical stakeholders
- experience building and deploying ML models in production
- strong hands-on Python skills
- experience with distributed computing tools such as Spark or PySpark
- cloud platforms and modern MLOps practices
- experience managing and developing data scientists
- ability to explain technical decisions and work with senior stakeholders
- banking-specific financial crime experience is beneficial
