Director, Solution Architect

As a Solution Architect at GSK, you will shape end-to-end designs for major Digital & Tech initiatives, ensuring alignment with reference architectures and enterprise standards. You’ll build reliability, observability and security into solutions from day one, and you’ll advocate AI-enabled approaches where they add real value. You’ll provide design assurance, push back on designs that don’t meet standards, and coordinate across platform domains to ensure coherent outcomes. This role offers the chance to influence architecture strategy in a global biopharma setting and contribute to mission-critical projects at scale.

• Produce solution designs for major DPTF and Digital & Tech initiatives aligned to reference architectures and strategy
• Incorporate reliability, resilience and observability from the outset, mindful of SLOs
• Design AI-enabled solutions where AI adds value and justify the case
• Provide design assurance and architecture review, specifying what would pass
• Balance business outcomes, cost, risk and technical fit in designs
• Coordinate across platform domains to ensure coherent end-to-end solutions
• Assure supplier and managed-service designs meet internal standards
• Uphold architecture governance and route exceptions through Enterprise Architecture
• Ensure designs meet security and compliance requirements, including GxP where applicable
• Reduce rework by early initiative shaping and evidence-based reviews
• Advise on architectural risk and implications of technical debt
• Coordinate with Platform Architects and Enterprise Architects on standards and strategy

• Degree in a technology or engineering discipline, or equivalent practical experience
• Experience in technology architecture or senior engineering with solution design delivery for major initiatives
• Broad experience across multiple technology domains and end-to-end design
• Hands-on design across SaaS, PaaS and IaaS on Azure and/or GCP
• Experience influencing business domain architects
• Experience running architecture review or design assurance, with ability to decline designs and specify improvements
• Track record in reliability, resilience and observability design
• Experience designing secure and compliant solutions
• Experience assuring supplier or SI designs to internal standards
• Awareness of AI patterns and value judgement in AI integration
• Understanding Modern Engineering workflows (CI/CD,IaC, Observability) and AI-assisted tooling
