Embedded Linux Engineer
Circuit32 Recruitment Solutions Ltd
We're looking for an Embedded Software Engineer with genuinely deep Embedded Linux experience to join a small engineering team. This isn't a build-and-configure role: you'll be working down at the kernel level, bringing up hardware and writing the drivers that make it work.
ROLE: Embedded Linux Engineer
LOCATION: REMOTE *Occasional travel to Cheltenham
RATE: up to £65ph (outside IR35)
DURATION: 6 months
What you'll be doing
- Developing and maintaining Linux kernel drivers for custom hardware and software
- Board bring-up, including bootloader (U-Boot), device tree and BSP work
- Debugging low-level issues across the hardware/software boundary
- Optimising performance, power and boot time on resource-constrained platforms
- Working closely with hardware engineers on new designs
Essential skills for the Embedded Linux Software Engineer
- Commercial experience of Linux kernel development, not just user-space on an embedded target
- A track record of writing and debugging device drivers (e.g. I2C, SPI, UART, GPIO, DMA, platform drivers)
- Strong C, with a solid grasp of kernel internals: memory management, interrupts, concurrency
- Hands-on board bring-up and device tree experience on ARM platforms
- Comfortable with Yocto or Buildroot
- You must be willing to travel to the customer site in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire at least once per month and more frequently if needed.
Cheers, Nathan
