Overview

In this role you will develop embedded software from concept to mass production, primarily for consumer products, while collaborating with cross-sector teams. You’ll work within PA’s technology and product development practice, tackling complex challenges and guiding solutions to deployment with real impact. You’ll contribute across the full lifecycle and share ideas across sectors to drive innovation. This is a hands-on, technically diverse role at a leading UK technology consultancy with strong client impact.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement software for embedded systems across the full lifecycle, from concept to product launch
  • Work on projects across consumer products and other sectors (medical, life sciences, defence) and contribute to deployment
  • Document software designs and maintain clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electronics, mechanical engineering and applied science to deliver solutions
  • Apply test-driven development and perform automated and manual testing; participate in CI/CD workflows if applicable
Key requirements
  • Expert C/C++/Rust programming
  • Python experience
  • Experience with RTOS (Zephyr OS), embedded Linux or bare-metal, on various microcontrollers and multi-core SoCs
  • Experience with Test Driven Development and both automated and manual testing
  • Experience with CI/CD methodologies (beneficial)
  • Breadth of communications protocols (I2C, SPI, UART, USB, Bluetooth, WiFi)
  • Ability to generate software design documentation
  • Familiarity with device datasheets and digital electronics
  • Experience across the full product lifecycle from concept to in-field maintenance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Hands-on approach and collaborative problem-solving attitude
  • UK security clearance eligibility or ability to obtain (UK nationality typically required)
  • Degree in electronic engineering or related subject
  • Strong academic background
