Embedded Software Engineer - Verification & Validation
Innovative Technology Business | Aerospace | Defence | Autonomous Systems
Salary: £55,000 - £65,000
Location: Central London
The Opportunity
An innovative and rapidly growing technology business is addressing one of the biggest challenges facing next-generation autonomous systems: trust, safety and assurance.
The company is developing advanced software solutions to support the safe deployment of autonomous technologies, providing independent assurance capabilities across complex, safety-critical systems. As AI and advanced autonomy become increasingly embedded within mission-critical applications, traditional assurance approaches are evolving to meet the demands of reliability, determinism and regulatory compliance.
Working alongside major organisations across aerospace, defence and advanced technology sectors, the business is developing innovative solutions designed to support highly regulated environments where safety, reliability and certification are paramount.
With demand accelerating across autonomous systems, aerospace, defence and next-generation technologies, the company is expanding rapidly and investing heavily in its engineering capability.
The Role
As part of a highly specialised engineering team, you will play a key role in the verification and validation of safety-critical software and systems, helping ensure that complex embedded technologies meet the highest standards of safety, reliability and regulatory compliance.
You will work across:
Safety-critical software and systems verification. Verification and validation strategies. Requirements-based testing and traceability. Automated testing and test framework development. Integration, system and qualification testing. Certification and compliance activities. Safety analysis and verification evidence. Embedded and real-time systems. The engineering team is focused on delivering robust verification capabilities for complex, highly regulated applications, supporting the development and certification of next-generation autonomous systems.
Responsibilities
Define and execute verification strategies for safety-critical software and systems. Develop test frameworks, verification plans and certification evidence. Support software verification activities within regulated development environments. Perform requirements-based verification and validation. Support certification documentation, traceability and compliance activities. Conduct integration, system and qualification testing. Apply advanced testing methodologies to assess software robustness and system safety. Work closely with software engineers to ensure compliance with safety and quality objectives. Support the development and continuous improvement of verification frameworks and processes. Take a proactive role in achieving programme verification and certification objectives. Must-Have Experience
Strong background in safety-critical software verification and validation. Experience with advanced software testing methodologies, including automated testing, fuzz testing, Monte Carlo simulation, fault injection or similar techniques. Experience working within regulated engineering environments. Understanding of software development lifecycles and verification processes. Experience with requirements-based testing and traceability. Knowledge of embedded systems and real-time software. Experience producing verification evidence and compliance documentation. Desirable Experience
DO-178C software verification experience. Automotive functional safety experience (ISO 26262 / IEC 61508). DAL A or DAL B programme experience. Aerospace, defence or autonomous systems background. Formal verification or static analysis experience. Safety-critical verification tooling, including SIL, HIL and other simulation-based testing environments. Verification of flight control or mission-critical systems. Knowledge of airworthiness, SORA or aviation certification frameworks. Experience supporting autonomous aircraft, UAV or UAS programmes.
