Overview

As a Software Engineer at National Grid, you will design and build scalable cloud-based platforms in a collaborative, cross-functional team. You will work on high‑performing services, applying C# and .NET Core to deliver reliable software aligned with business goals. The role focuses on secure, maintainable solutions and continuous improvement through agile practices. You’ll partner with product and engineering stakeholders to shape architecture and standards, impacting how the organization enables the energy transition. This is a hybrid role that blends hands-on coding with systems thinking and security-conscious delivery.

Responsibilities
  • Build scalable software using C# and .NET Core with clean, testable code
  • Improve reliability and uptime of distributed systems via automation and efficient deployment
  • Apply robust security controls ensuring compliance with industry standards
  • Work in Agile/Lean environments to deliver value iteratively
  • Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders across the product lifecycle
  • Adhere to engineering/architecture standards, participate in code reviews, and maintain documentation
Key requirements
  • Proficient in C# and .NET Core with strong backend fundamentals
  • Experience with microservices and event-driven architectures, RESTful APIs
  • Experience in Azure (including Entra, modern authn/authz)
  • Containerization and automation (e.g., Docker)
  • CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices, including IaC and observability
  • Test-first mindset with unit/integration testing; exposure to E2E/contract testing (XUnit, Playwright, PACT)
  • Lean/Agile experience; awareness of ISO 27001 and GDPR security/compliance
  • Collaborative mindset
