Engineering Lead - Comparison Team (Data Focused)

In this Engineering Lead role, you’ll guide a small but growing team to build a scalable, data-driven competitor pricing platform. You will shape the technical vision with Product, deliver reliable data pipelines and APIs, and scale an intelligent scraping framework. You’ll drive AI-enabled enhancements and ensure data accuracy, governance, and trust across internal and customer-facing experiences. This role blends hands-on technical work with leadership to enable Wise’s comparison-driven growth.

• Lead, coach and develop engineers, focusing on health, growth and productivity as the team scales
• Collaborate with Product Manager to shape roadmap across growth levers: reach, convert, retain
• Own reliability, accuracy and scalability of the competitor data platform and the public Comparison API
• Own the strategy and delivery of the intelligent scraping platform, enabling thousands of self-healing scrapers
• Advance AI usage in the data pipeline (LLM scrapers, automated quality control, AI-assisted fixes) with safe, scalable adoption
• Provide design feedback and enable data-driven decisions using experiments and the North Star metric (Comparison-sourced new customers)
• Partner with Marketing, Compliance, SEO, Regional and Pricing to establish operating models, governance and trusted data usage
• Maintain an overview of the wider Scalable Growth space and align engineering efforts across teams
• Be hands-on when needed and participate in the on-call rotation for critical services

• Proven track record leading high-performing engineering teams and establishing efficient ways of working
• Strong product mindset with a focus on UX and data-driven problem solving
• Excellent communication capable of explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Experience designing and operating scalable, resilient systems with strong observability and data quality
• Ability to break complex projects into incremental milestones delivering customer value
• Proficiency in Java and Spring Boot; experience with event-driven microservices (Kafka) and relational databases
• Interest in applying LLMs in production: data extraction, evaluation, observability, and guarding against hallucination
• Hands-on experience designing and operating data collection/validation from external sources (web scraping, third-party integrations)
• Experience with experimentation (A/B testing) and collaboration with analysts is a plus
