Engineering Lead - Public Markets Operations Technology

Overview

As Engineering Lead, you will shape and guide high-quality software delivery across Public Markets Operations Technology. You will lead multiple teams, drive modernisation, and raise engineering standards while mentoring engineers and partners. You’ll balance delivery pressure with software quality, security, and maintainability, collaborating with cross-functional colleagues to deliver tangible business value. This role offers scope to influence platform design, scale capabilities, and embed continuous improvement in a global financial services context.

Responsibilities
  • Lead applications development using appropriate technologies for the problem space
  • Own software delivery across design, development, testing, release and implementation
  • Translate outcomes and user stories with stakeholders into working software
  • Prioritise backlogs, manage dependencies, and surface technical debt
  • Collaborate with UX/product teams to deliver intuitive user experiences
  • Explain technical options and risks to non-technical stakeholders
  • Coordinate cross-team dependencies to reduce delivery friction
  • Write and maintain infrastructure as code to support CI/CD and consistent environments
  • Set engineering quality standards including code reviews, testing discipline, and operational readiness
  • Mentor engineers and partners, supporting capability growth
  • Contribute to agile ceremonies and Enterprise Engineering standards
  • Support maintenance and evolution of a complex platform ensuring operational value
  • Actively manage application estate, including end-of-life decisions and vulnerability handling
Key requirements
  • Strong expertise in at least one of C#/.Net, Python, Nodejs and/or React
  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., Snowflake) and low-code platforms (Outsystems, Power Platform) is advantageous
  • Understanding of engineering principles, patterns, and best practices for designing applications
  • Extensive experience across full software development lifecycle in an agile environment
  • Excellent understanding of testing approaches and testability impact on design
  • System-level thinking to align design and technology choices with business needs
  • Strong design skills from user needs to business domain modelling
  • Excellent written and spoken English with stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to produce clear thought leadership on technical topics
  • Experience managing multiple initiatives and fostering cross-team collaboration
