Overview

As Software Engineering Manager in the Applied Research Engineering team, you lead a 5–8 strong engineering group focused on incubating ideas into robust capabilities. You translate organizational goals into clear engineering priorities and foster a high-performing, inclusive culture. You’ll stay technically engaged to guide decisions while enabling predictable delivery across distributed teams including PlayStation Studios. This role offers hands-on leadership with meaningful technical impact in shaping future PlayStation technology and experiences.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop mid-level to senior engineers through regular 1:1s and growth conversations
  • Stay close to technical work to support sound engineering decisions
  • Enable predictable delivery by clarifying scope and removing blockers
  • Translate objectives into actionable team plans with technical leads and TPM
  • Represent engineering judgment in planning discussions for shared understanding
  • Provide day-to-day leadership for engineering initiatives with senior support
  • Foster an inclusive, high-trust culture focused on collaboration and excellence
  • Build cross-functional relationships across teams and locations
  • Support hiring and onboarding to enable sustainable team growth
  • Propose pragmatic improvements to engineering practices to improve outcomes
  • Communicate progress and recommendations with necessary context
Key requirements
  • 2-3 years of experience in engineering management or equivalent technical leadership
  • Strong software engineering background with judgement to guide teams
  • Hands-on development experience in C++, C#, Python or comparable technologies
  • Experience delivering production-quality software through the development lifecycle
  • Ability to understand technical proposals and work with leads to resolve challenges
  • Proven coaching experience and support for team effectiveness
  • Good communication skills for technical and delivery topics
  • Experience collaborating across teams, functions, or locations
  • Motivation to grow as an engineering manager
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience desirable
