Overview

In this role you will own end-to-end virtualization and private cloud delivery, combining VMware and Red Hat OpenShift/OpenStack expertise. You will lead architecture choices, drive migrations from VMware to Kubernetes, and mentor delivery teams. You’ll navigate licensing and governance while shaping secure, scalable platforms. This position offers impact across architecture, build, migration, and handover within a client-facing, delivery-focused environment.

Responsibilities
  • Own end-to-end technical delivery of virtualization and private cloud engagements: architecture definition, design, build/migration oversight, go-live validation
  • Chair Architecture Review Board (ARB) and Technical Design Authority (TDA) sessions, managing governance gates and design sign-off
  • Architect VMware environments: vSphere/ESXi, vCenter, vSAN, NSX-T/NSX-V, and VCF deployments
  • Architect Red Hat platforms: OpenShift (OCP), OpenShift Virtualization (KubeVirt), RHOSP design
  • Lead VMware-to-Kubernetes and VM-to-container migration strategies, including risk mitigation
  • Design software-defined storage and networking for virtualization: vSAN, Ceph/ODF, NSX
  • Define disaster recovery and business continuity architectures for virtualized estates
  • Lead design workshops and produce low-level design documentation to professional-services standards
  • Champion infrastructure-as-code and automation (Ansible, Terraform, GitOps/ArgoCD)
  • Mentor other virtualization engineers and contribute to private cloud reference architectures
Key requirements
  • 8–10+ years in virtualization, private cloud, or infrastructure architecture roles
  • Direct hands-on experience with VMware-to-Kubernetes or VM-to-container migrations
  • Core VMware platform expertise (vSphere/ESXi, vCenter, vSAN, NSX-T/NSX-V, VCF)
  • OpenShift (OCP) architecture and installation; OpenShift Virtualization; RHOSP
  • Kubernetes fundamentals, operators, and storage (CSI, ODF/Ceph)
  • Automation and IaC experience with Ansible and Terraform; GitOps with ArgoCD
  • Experience hosting ARB/TDA governance and ADRs; architecture decision documentation
  • Licensing fluency for VMware/Broadcom and Red Hat subscriptions to advise on cost and strategy
  • Strong client-facing design and delivery leadership skills
