Overview

As Enterprise Infrastructure Lead, you guide and develop a team responsible for critical, enterprise-class infrastructure within a regulated banking environment. You set technical direction, own platform integrity and security, and drive modernisation across the Lab’s core estate. You’ll balance resilience with agility, partnering with architects, security, and suppliers to enable safe, high-quality change. This is a hands-on leadership role shaping platform strategy and operational excellence at scale.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and grow engineering teams, defining technical direction and fostering a strong engineering culture
  • Own availability, resilience, and security of enterprise platforms
  • Define and execute platform strategies, including hardware refresh and decommissioning
  • Serve as senior technical authority during incidents, design changes, risk management, and assurance activities
  • Lead major change initiatives with robust planning and risk assessment
  • Collaborate with application teams, security, service, and suppliers to enable safe delivery of change
  • Drive simplification, automation, and cost-efficiency while managing enterprise platform challenges
  • Support financial management for the platform including forecasting and supplier oversight
  • Develop capability through coaching, mentoring, and succession planning
Key requirements
  • Leading engineering teams for enterprise-level infrastructure in a regulated, high-availability setting
  • Hands-on understanding of mainframe or midrange platforms (e.g., Unisys, IBM Z, Non-Stop)
  • Ownership of platform strategy, lifecycle management and roadmaps
  • Experience managing complex change and incidents with senior stakeholder engagement
  • Knowledge of resilience, security, and operational risk in financial services or similar regulated industries
  • Experience with Unisys systems
  • Experience in financial services, payments, mortgages, or core banking environments
  • Experience with hardware refreshes or large-scale technology transformations
