Job Summary

In January 2020, Langara College migrated its HR and finance operations to the cloud-based Workday ERP platform. Langara is now transforming its Student Information Systems (SIS) through a suite of solutions, including the Workday Student product. Design efforts to-date on Workday Student have revealed needs to adjust Langara’s existing Workday platform and related business processes. This role will primarily be supporting these Student-HR “touchpoint” projects. Under the general guidance of one or more project managers, the Business Analyst leads the assessment of client needs, and business and systems requirements in alignment with information technology solutions. This position provides expertise in the areas of functional requirements definition, functional design, data, functional specifications for integrations and reporting configuration, business process analysis and design, testing, training and documentation to deliver enterprise solutions. This position also provides expertise in benefits realization planning, reporting and tracking. The Business Analyst is an integral member of the team and has a strategic perspective and a broad-based understanding of integrating business operations with an enterprise solution.

Duties & Responsibilities

Core Duties: Leads the assessment of client needs utilizing a structured requirements process (gathering, analyzing, documenting, and managing changes) to identify business priorities and recommends options. Identifies, elicits, and documents business requirements, defines business rules and communicates requirements for the implementation of business solutions. Communicates with stakeholders of varying technical ability and subject matter expertise. Conducts workflow and gap analysis for operational support processes. Performs analysis and identification of requirements for data, reporting and integrations. Works closely with project delivery, operational, technical and organizational change management team members and other stakeholders in implementing integrated business process improvements, documenting agreements, and discussions. Position is privileged to highly sensitive information relating to business or technological changes. Provides consultative services for the development of policies and procedures. Analyzes metrics to ensure for client satisfaction. Provides input and recommendations to feasibility studies for standard development projects and enhancements. Provides technical guidance and leadership to less-experienced individuals. Prepares functional, system and program specifications. Develops user test cases and validates test results during user acceptance testing and system acceptance testing stages. Typically performs functional testing. Prepares and maintains traceability matrix for requirements, configuration scope and testing. Prepares project status reports and communicate status to client. Maintains appropriate professional designations and up-to-date knowledge of current information technology techniques and tools. Acquires and maintains working knowledge of the College's technical and business environment. Understands key technical environments to effectively identify integration, security, scalability, and performance requirements. Builds and maintains good working relationships with project teams, business analyst peers, stakeholders, and vendors. Analyses the impacts of proposed changes to technology services and or processes within the College community. Provides ongoing support of general PMO activities and processes (e.g. risk management framework) Develops benefits realization plan and implements the mechanisms by which benefits can be realized and measured Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications Required

Education & Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. A minimum of 5 years of business analysis experience, with in-depth knowledge of applications and the business requirements supporting them. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Considerable knowledge of project management, quality assurance and change management disciplines.
  • Experience in software implementation projects in a business analyst role is preferred. Experience in producing business analysis deliverables such as: BRDs, use cases, user scenarios, user stories, BPMs.
  • Experience on an ERP implementation project is strongly preferred. Experience in implementing Student modules on an ERP implementation project is strongly preferred. Experience in benefits realization management is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of business process mapping and improvement/optimization. Knowledge of BPMN. Experience facilitating diverse groups to achieve an appropriate outcome. Knowledge of data analysis and data modeling (conceptual, logical). Solid understanding of key trends and players in the IT industry. Higher-education or public sector experience is an asset. Proven knowledge and continuous learning of business analysis discipline and best practices, and demonstrated contributions to practice improvement.
