In this role you drive security, reliability, and modernization of business-critical banking applications through hands-on engagements with development teams. You lead complex remediation efforts, build automated tests, and upgrade runtimes while shaping CI/CD and observability patterns. You work directly with client stakeholders to define and implement practical modernization plans and ensure sustainable engineering practices. Responsibilities- Lead targeted engagements addressing security, testing, release, resilience, and legacy technology challenges with development teams.
- Assess code, dependencies, runtime, test coverage, deployment architecture, CI/CD, observability, and operational risks.
- Write, debug, review, and enhance production-quality code and configuration during engagements.
- Define and implement modernization and remediation plans with priorities, risks, and measurable outcomes.
- Develop or improve unit, integration, component, contract, and deployment tests using TDD.
- Select and drive automation-testing approaches, including AI-assisted coding.
- Source test data and implement secure data masking for lower environments.
- Perform vulnerability triage, root-cause analysis, dependency reachability analyses, and regression testing.
- Upgrade Java, JVM, NPM, Spring, libraries, and OS to supported versions.
- Establish sustainable dependency-management processes with continuous library updates (Renovate or equivalent).
- Modernize legacy apps and middleware (WebSphere/WebLogic) and containerize with Docker/OpenShift.
- Improve source control, branching, PRs, and code reviews.
- Design, implement, and optimize CI/CD pipelines for safe, automated releases.
- Automate database changes (Liquibase or equivalent) and environment changes (Ansible or equivalent).
- Implement secure coding, secrets management, authz/authn, and least-privilege controls.
- Introduce standard observability patterns (logging, metrics, tracing, dashboards, alerts, health checks).
- Enhance exception handling, diagnostics, rollback procedures, and production-validation controls.
- Design/resiliently deploy architectures (hot-hot, cross-datacenter as needed).
- Lead technical workshops and communicate decisions, risks, and progress to stakeholders.
- Provide technical leadership through code reviews, standards, documentation, and knowledge transfer.
- Take ownership from assessment to production handover and stabilization.
- Extensive hands-on software engineering experience with active code writing and configuration.
- Expertise in Java and JVM-based development; strong TypeScript for Node.js projects; Spring ecosystem proficiency.
- Hands-on experience with TDD and automated testing within CI/CD environments.
- Secure coding, vulnerability remediation, and dependency risk analysis with impact assessment.
- Upgrading runtimes/frameworks/libraries, container platforms (Docker/OpenShift), and Linux environments (Red Hat preferred).
- Knowledge of build tools (Maven/Gradle/npm), advanced Git workflows, and production debugging.
- Understanding of observability, exception handling, and production readiness; distributed systems principles.
- End-to-end ownership and strong client-facing communication; ability to coach teams and drive standards.
