Export Control & Security Lead

Our client is a growing advanced technology business developing high-performance electronic and communications systems for demanding applications across aerospace, defence, telecommunications and other mission-critical environments.

They are looking for an experienced Export Control & Security Lead to take ownership of export compliance and security activities within a highly regulated engineering environment.

This is a broad, responsible position combining export control, security governance and regulatory compliance. You will work across the organisation, supporting teams involved in sensitive technology and helping ensure appropriate controls are maintained around products, information and international activity.

Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of export control and security compliance activities across the business.
• Support compliance relating to controlled and dual-use technology.
• Manage and support export licensing requirements.
• Maintain appropriate security governance, policies and processes.
• Support the organisation's security responsibilities and requirements.
• Provide guidance to internal teams on export control and security matters.
• Work with relevant external and regulatory bodies where required.
• Help identify, assess and manage risks relating to controlled information and technology.
• Support ongoing improvement of security and compliance processes.
• Maintain appropriate records and documentation to demonstrate compliance.
• Experience within export control, security, trade compliance or a closely related discipline.
• Knowledge of UK export control requirements and controlled technology.
• Experience working within a regulated or security-sensitive environment.
• Strong understanding of compliance and governance processes.
• Experience managing sensitive information and documentation.
• Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and provide practical guidance to different areas of a business.
• Strong communication skills with the confidence to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to take ownership of compliance activities.
• Previous experience within aerospace, defence, advanced electronics or another highly regulated technology environment.
• Experience relating to military or dual-use products and technology.
• Knowledge of export licensing processes.
• Previous involvement with organisational security requirements or security governance.
• Experience liaising with government, regulatory or external security bodies.
• Experience supporting security or export compliance within an engineering or manufacturing organisation.
