Overview

As an Overnight Reactive Technical Support Engineer, you provide first-line, on-call fault support to keep trains available and safe. You work with production sites and suppliers, delivering rapid technical guidance and diagnostics. You’ll operate at outstations and in-service, contributing to fleet reliability and safety through prompt fault resolution and clear reporting. This role sits at the core of Alstom’s mission to enable greener, smarter mobility by keeping trains on time. It's a hands-on, cross-functional role with real impact on service delivery and safety outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Attend local outstations to provide on-site technical advice and expert guidance to Maintenance Suppliers
  • Provide technical phone support to rectify faults at outstations
  • Travel to outstation sites within three hours as needed
  • Deliver 24/7 in-service technical support for trains
  • Carry out lone and wayside working and assist with safety-related incidents and recovery
  • Coordinate fault information with Fleet Management for repairs
  • Record defects, fleet checks, and campaigns in SAP GSI fleet system
  • Highlight safety issues to Fleet Management and propose actions
  • Liaise with outstation suppliers when vehicles are on depot
  • Monitor in-service vehicles proactively and perform fault diagnostics using TMS and laptop-based software
  • Produce detailed verbal and electronic reports of actions taken
Key requirements
  • Full UK driving license
  • Apprentice trained in an Engineering discipline
  • HNC in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Personal Track Safety (PTS) and Designated Persons (DP) qualifications (training provided, railway knowledge required)
  • Rail rolling stock experience desirable
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills; ability to perform under pressure
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams and schematics
