Finance Director

EMG Solicitors Limited

North East · England · United Kingdom

EMG Solicitors is an important and growing part of Fletchers Group! We are looking for an experienced Finance Director to join our leadership team and help guide the business through its next stage of growth and integration.

Reporting to EMG's CEO, with a dotted line to the Group's CFO, you'll lead EMG's finance function and work closely with the CEO and wider leadership team. You'll partner with our existing Finance Lead and team, building on their knowledge while developing the function's capabilities as the business grows.

This is a broad leadership role combining financial control with commercial insight. You'll help leaders understand what is driving performance, what lies ahead and where action is needed.

What you'll do

  • Lead EMG's finance function and take ownership of its financial performance.
  • Partner with the CEO and leadership team, providing financial insight, constructive challenge and support for business decisions.
  • Lead budgeting and forecasting, and develop clear reporting and KPIs covering revenue, profitability, cash and operational performance.
  • Coach and develop the Finance team, building accountability, capability and a stronger commercial focus.
  • Ensure accurate, timely reporting and work with Fletchers Group Finance on policies, controls, governance and integration.
  • Strengthen cash management and working capital planning.
  • Support investment cases, growth opportunities and business transformation.
  • Improve finance processes, systems and reporting, including through practical use of automation and AI.
  • Oversee EMG's financial input into statutory reporting, audit, tax and other external requirements, working with Group Finance.

What we're looking for

You will be a qualified accountant-ACA, ACCA or CIMA-with significant post-qualification experience and a track record as a Finance Director, or in an equivalent role with broad responsibility for the finance function of a sizeable business or division.

You will bring experience of leading and developing finance teams, partnering with a CEO, Managing Director or senior leadership team, and overseeing budgeting, forecasting, reporting, cash management and financial controls. You will be commercially minded and able to turn financial analysis into practical recommendations.

You will also be a clear communicator who can influence senior stakeholders, move comfortably between strategy and detail, and take a pragmatic, hands‑on approach when needed. Experience in a growing or changing organisation, including acquisition integration, would be valuable. Experience in legal services, professional services or another people-led services business is welcome but not essential.

What success will look like

You will become a trusted partner to the CEO and leadership team, improve the quality and forward‑looking value of financial reporting, and build strong working relationships across EMG and the Group. You will also help develop the existing Finance team and make the function more effective through better processes, systems and insight.

EMG Solicitors are an equal opportunities employer.

To apply for this role, you must have the right to work within the UK.
