Your new company

An established and successful privately owned group with operations across multiple UK locations is looking to appoint a Finance Director. This is an operationally focused business with significant activity across a portfolio of logistics and supply chain operations. This is an excellent opportunity to join the senior leadership team in a broad, highly visible role where finance is closely connected to day-to-day commercial and operational decision-making.

Your new role

Reporting directly to the Board, you will take ownership of the Group finance function and act as a key commercial partner to senior management. This is a genuinely hands‑on Finance Director position, combining financial control with commercial and operational business partnering. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Production of Group management accounts, budgets and cash-flow forecasts
  • Reviewing performance and explaining key variances to the Board and management team
  • Providing financial analysis, costing and commercial insight to support new ventures and decision-making
  • Managing banking and asset finance relationships
  • Leading relationships with auditors and other external advisers
  • Overseeing payroll, VAT, tax, fixed assets and statutory financial requirements
  • Supporting the financing and purchase of major plant and equipment
  • Working closely with operational management across the Group
  • Coordinating monthly management meetings and providing meaningful financial insight to support business performance

What you'll need to succeed

The preference is for a hands‑on accountant who enjoys being close to operations rather than operating solely at Board or strategic level. You will ideally bring:

  • Fully Qualified Accountant
  • A strong background in operational finance and commercial business partnering
  • Experience within logistics, haulage, warehousing, distribution or supply chain environments
  • The ability to combine strong financial control with pragmatic commercial thinking
  • Strong management accounting, budgeting and cash-flow forecasting experience
  • Confidence working directly with operational managers and senior leadership
  • Experience managing external relationships with banks, auditors, finance providers and advisers
  • A willingness to get into the detail while retaining a wider commercial perspective
  • A proactive, down-to-earth approach suited to an entrepreneurial and operationally driven business

Above all, this role will suit an accountant who wants to be visible within the business, close to its operations and influential in commercial decision‑making.

This is a site based role with occasional national travel.

What you’ll get in return

In addition to a competitive salary, the role offers a suite of corporate benefits, including bonus, car allowance and private medical.
