Financial Analyst - 3-6 months

Our Client is a leading waste management and environmental company in the GTA looking to bring on a Financial Analyst to join them on a 3-to-6-month contract. For the right candidate, there is strong potential to convert to a permanent position within the organization. The role is hybrid with 4 days a week in office located in Mississauga and 5 days a week during month end.

This is an Operational Finance driven role and the successful candidate will work closely with operational leaders and finance management to provide insights that drive business performance and support strategic decision-making and may need to visit the sites in the GTA from time to time. Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Month-End Close

• Support the monthly financial close process, including preparation and review of journal entries, accruals, and financial reporting packages.
• Analyze monthly operating results and investigate variances against budget, forecast, and prior year performance.
• Prepare and distribute monthly management reports and financial analysis for operational leaders.
• Ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial information across assigned business units.
• Assist in quarterly and year-end reporting requirements.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Planning

• Participate in the annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes for Ontario operations.
• Develop financial models and analyses to support planning and business decision-making.
• Monitor key performance indicators and identify trends impacting financial and operational performance.
• Support long-range planning initiatives and special projects as required.

Operations Finance & Business Partnering

• Partner with Operations Managers and Regional Leadership teams to understand business performance and provide financial insights.
• Analyze revenue, operating costs, margins, and productivity metrics to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Support initiatives focused on cost management, operational efficiency, and profitability enhancement.
• Provide financial support for strategic business initiatives and capital expenditure decisions.
• Act as a trusted finance partner to multiple Ontario locations.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
• CPA designation or active pursuit of CPA is considered an asset.
• 2-5+ years of relevant experience in month end accounting, financial reporting financial analysis, FP&A, and or operations finance.
• Strong understanding of financial statements, month-end close processes, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
• Advanced Excel skills including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial modeling.
• Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to present financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
