Job Summary and Main Responsibilities

Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Financial Controller is responsible for a variety of accounting and financial activities across the group. The incumbent ensures the integrity of financial information, supervises a team, and actively participates in financial close processes, treasury management, payroll, and financial controls for multiple entities within the organization.

The Financial Controller acts as a key resource for matters requiring analysis, judgment, and problem-solving, while contributing to the continuous improvement of financial processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise, coach, and develop the Finance Department team to ensure effective workload distribution and adherence to deadlines;
  • Participate in setting priorities and resolving complex or problematic situations;
  • Review work prepared by team members and provide the necessary guidance and support;
  • Promote continuous improvement of processes and work practices;
  • Coordinate the financial close process for multiple entities, including the preparation and review of complex journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and external audit files, ensuring the integrity of financial results and supporting group consolidation;
  • Oversee treasury activities and banking operations, including reconciliations, review of electronic payments (EFT, ACH, and wire transfers), daily cash management, administration of banking platforms, and the analysis and resolution of discrepancies or unusual situations;
  • Oversee accounts payable activities, including the review of payment proposals, resolution of complex supplier issues, and the proper application of financial controls related to disbursements;
  • Review payrolls and payroll-related journal entries for multiple entities;
  • Monitor accrued vacation balances, accrued salaries, and payroll remittances;
  • Review reconciliations related to employee benefits, retirement savings plans (RRSP), unions, and other payroll deductions;
  • Provide year-end support for the preparation of T4 summaries, RL-1 slips, CNESST filings, and taxable benefit calculations;
  • Participate in resolving matters requiring accounting or operational judgment;
  • Contribute to the financial activities of multiple Canadian and international entities, including intercompany reconciliations;
  • Participate in selected financial activities related to operations in Mexico and other divisions within the group;
  • Collaborate with internal and external financial stakeholders to ensure the accuracy of financial information;
  • Participate in the improvement of internal controls;
  • Standardize and document financial procedures;
  • Identify automation and process improvement opportunities;
  • Contribute to financial systems enhancement projects and business process improvement initiatives;
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned.

The incumbent communicates in English with colleagues located outside Quebec, as well as with customers and suppliers. While most communications are written and supported by electronic translation tools, the individual must also be able to participate in conversations and conference calls conducted in English.

  • Demonstrate strong technical leadership, autonomy, and attention to detail, while possessing excellent analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to effectively manage priorities, handle multiple files and projects simultaneously, and adapt to a rapidly changing environment;
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills that foster collaboration and the development of strong partnerships.

Skills We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field;
  • CPA designation or currently pursuing the CPA designation;
  • Six (6) to ten (10) years of relevant experience in a similar role;
  • Experience supervising or coordinating a team;
  • Strong understanding of treasury, payroll, accounts payable, and financial close processes;
  • Proficiency with an integrated ERP system (knowledge of SAP Business One is considered a significant asset);
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel;
  • Demonstrated professional judgment and the ability to analyze issues and recommend appropriate solutions;
  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken;
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment (an asset).
