Focus Principal Engineer

In this Principal Engineer role, you provide hands-on technical leadership using .Net and Azure to steer a set of Focus products and services. You translate high-level architecture into workable designs, guiding engineers to deliver robust, scalable solutions. You collaborate with architecture and product teams to ensure designs align with Focus principles and governance. You lead by coaching engineers, promote quality and observability, and enable rapid, reliable delivery. The role offers hybrid flexibility with multiple UK sites, and a chance to shape critical cloud-native systems at scale.

• Define and guide technical architecture and low-level designs for Focus products
• Drive proactive monitoring and governance of value stream solutions
• Collaborate in Enterprise planning to align delivery with business outcomes
• Own technical product delivery within governance and Definition of Done
• Lead and mentor engineers, ensuring quality, re-use, and performance optimization
• Shape observability/quality by design in pipelines and promote self-testing
• Participate in release processes and provide expert guidance during releases
• Lead the SRE function within the value stream and participate in on-call rota
• Create architecture/design documents to ensure transparency and understanding
• Ensure compliance with policies, standards, and cross-functional collaboration

• Extensive experience designing and building end-to-end cloud-based software solutions
• Hands-on Azure and other cloud platforms
• C# .NET experience including DI, Entity Framework, and unit testing
• Experience migrating monoliths to microservices on Azure
• Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and serverless architectures
• Experience with SPA to SQL full-stack solutions (Angular preferred)
• UML/software modelling experience; agile delivery (Scrum/Kanban)
• Unit testing for pipelines and overall solution quality
• Experience with release management and on-call operational support
• Strong collaboration with Architects, Product Owners and senior stakeholders
