About the Role

Lead a team of Forward Deployed Engineers to design, build, and deliver complex, production-ready Notion integrations, agents, automations, and data migrations for enterprise customers across EMEA. Combine people leadership, hands-on technical judgment, and customer-facing delivery to ensure successful implementation and long-term adoption.

Job Description

Role

As the Manager of Forward Deployed Engineering (Services) based in London, you will lead a team responsible for hands-on technical delivery of complex enterprise customer engagements. You will coach engineers through discovery, architecture, implementation, and launch while remaining close to the work to guide technical decisions, unblock delivery, and build trust with senior customer stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Forward Deployed Engineers delivering enterprise customer engagements across EMEA.
  • Own the technical quality and outcomes of engagements from discovery and requirements gathering through solution design, implementation, launch, and handover.
  • Act as a trusted technical and delivery advisor to customer engineering, IT, security, and business leaders.
  • Guide design, build, and operation of custom agents, integrations, automations, and data pipelines connecting Notion with customers’ systems.
  • Oversee large-scale content and data migrations, including discovery, scoping, data modeling, transformation, validation, cutover, and post-migration optimization.
  • Review technical designs, identify delivery risks, and provide senior technical leadership when engagements require escalation.
  • Partner with Sales and Services on qualification, feasibility, scoping, effort estimation, staffing, and delivery planning for strategic opportunities.
  • Define and scale the operating model for Forward Deployed Engineering: hiring, onboarding, delivery methodologies, quality reviews, documentation, and reusable technical assets.

Requirements

  • 8+ years in forward deployed engineering, solutions/professional services, customer engineering, software engineering, or similar hands-on technical roles.
  • 2+ years managing, coaching, or leading engineers in customer-facing technical delivery.
  • Proven experience hiring, developing, and retaining high-performing technical teams.
  • Hands-on experience with APIs, integrations, authentication, data transformation, and production systems.
  • Experience leading technical discovery, assessing feasibility, identifying risks, scoping work, and estimating effort from ambiguous requirements.
  • Strong architectural judgment and debugging skills across code, APIs, permissions, integrations, data quality, automation logic, and system limits.
  • Demonstrated success managing multiple complex customer engagements while maintaining quality, team health, and stakeholder communication.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and ability to influence technical and executive audiences.
  • Customer- and outcomes-oriented decision-making, balancing standardization and customization.

Nice to Haves

  • Experience building or scaling Forward Deployed Engineering or professional services functions in startups or high-growth companies.
  • Experience deploying AI agents and designing AI-powered workflows (MCP, Agent APIs, LLM applications, prompt engineering, retrieval/RAG, workflow orchestration).
  • Experience with ETL/ELT workflows, schema mapping, validation scripts, and large-scale migration tooling.
  • Experience partnering with product and engineering teams to influence roadmaps or architecture based on customer implementation needs.
  • Experience supporting pre-sales and early engagement phases: discovery, scoping, feasibility analysis, prototypes, and custom scripts.
  • Experience establishing delivery standards, quality review processes, discovery methodologies, or internal engineering tooling.
