Forward Deployment Engineer

As a Forward Deployment Engineer at Barclays, you design, develop and improve software across business, platform and tech layers to empower customers and colleagues. You will translate complex problems into production AI-enabled solutions, collaborating with product, design and engineering to align with business aims. You’ll champion secure, well-tested code and contribute to technical excellence across teams. This role offers the chance to shape AI capabilities in financial services.

• Develop and deliver high-quality software using industry-standard languages, frameworks, and tools.
• Ensure code is scalable, maintainable and performance-optimized.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, designers and engineers to define requirements and strategy.
• Participate in code reviews and promote code quality and knowledge sharing.
• Stay updated on tech trends and contribute to technology communities.
• Adhere to secure coding practices to protect data and mitigate vulnerabilities.
• Implement effective unit testing to ensure reliability and readability.

• Experience with AI/ML, especially deploying solutions using LLMs, RAG architectures, and modern AI frameworks (Strands, FastMCP, LangChain, LlamaIndex, Hugging Face, A2A, MCP).
• Ability to translate business problems into technical solutions with stakeholder engagement.
• Experience in financial environments (investment banking, risk, compliance or relevant domain) with understanding of regulatory and responsible AI practices.
• Solid software engineering foundation with Python, cloud platforms (AWS/Azure), APIs, and full-stack development.
• Experience with MLOps including model deployment, monitoring, evaluation, and CI/CD pipelines.

• Excellent communication and consulting skills; ability to build trust and manage stakeholder expectations.
