Full Stack Developer, Django

• Design, develop, and maintain Tayco's in-house plant software for label printing, assembly tracking, machine downtime reporting, and live production dashboards.
• Own the interface layer of shop floor applications, including layout, responsive behavior, scanner and keyboard input, form usability, and error and empty states.
• Develop and maintain vanilla ES6 JavaScript for scan handling, dynamic tables, live updates, and client-side validation.
• Build and consume REST endpoints between the Django backend and frontend, handling slow, failed, and empty responses.
• Develop end-to-end features from models, views, and querysets through rendered screens.
• Build and maintain live production dashboards using Django Channels, including reconnection and stale-state handling.
• Refactor JavaScript into shared, consistent modules without disrupting production.
• Observe operators and supervisors on the production floor and translate observed problems into requirements.
• Train operators and supervisors on new features.
• Create and maintain user-facing documentation as software expands to additional departments.
• Document existing processes and improve test coverage incrementally without interrupting production.
• Use AI-assisted development tools with sound judgement and remain accountable for submitted code.
• Perform other development and maintenance tasks as required.

Requirements

• Must have post secondary education in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical field, or 2-5 years of industry experience building web applications.
• Must have strong JavaScript skills and ownership of a large JavaScript-heavy vanilla ES6 codebase with no framework or build step.
• Solid understanding of REST APIs, including endpoint design, frontend consumption, and handling slow, failed, or empty responses.
• Working knowledge of Django and intermediate Python; able to write a view, model, form, and queryset without supervision.
• Fluency with Bootstrap 5 and confidence customizing CSS.
• Knowledge of Tayco's stack is an asset: Django 5.2, PostgreSQL, Redis, Django Channels and Daphne, Bootstrap 5.3, vanilla ES6, read-only ERP integration, and Windows Server deployment through GitHub Actions.
• Experience with Django Channels/WebSockets, Redis, barcode or scanner-driven interfaces, manufacturing or warehouse software, user-facing documentation, accessibility work, or interface design is an asset.
• Effective and judicious use of AI-assisted development tools, including reviewing generated code and explaining every shipped line.
• Ability to refactor others' code in small, safe increments.
• Ability to communicate with nontechnical people and gather requirements from operators.
• Ability to teach and demonstrate software at workstations and document procedures.
• Ability to confirm requirements before building and raise problems directly and constructively.
• Ability to recognize confusing or inefficient interfaces and interpret written and oral instructions.

• Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into technical applications.
