A leading UK ecommerce business

Our client is one of the UK's leading ecommerce businesses, serving millions of customers across web and app. Their platform handles high traffic, peak trading events and a fast-moving product catalogue.

About the Role

They're hiring a Senior Full Stack Engineer to build customer-facing features end to end – from React front ends to Node.js services and APIs. You'll work across the stack on journeys like search, product pages, basket and checkout, where every improvement shows up in conversion. This role offers real ownership, a modern TypeScript codebase, and the scale to see your work used by millions.

Responsibilities

  • Build and ship features end to end across React front-ends and Node.js back-end services
  • Design and develop scalable APIs (REST/GraphQL) that power web and mobile experiences
  • Optimise site performance, Core Web Vitals and SEO for high-traffic ecommerce pages
  • Own reliability during peak trading events like Black Friday, with monitoring and on-call support
  • Lead technical design for new features and contribute to architecture decisions
  • Run A/B tests and use data to improve conversion across key journeys
  • Champion code quality through reviews, testing and pairing, and mentor other engineers
  • Work closely with Product, Design and QA in an agile, cross-functional squad

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, working across front-end and back-end

Required Skills

  • Experience with Next.js or other server-side rendering frameworks
  • Solid API design skills (REST and/or GraphQL) and experience with microservices
  • Good knowledge of SQL and/or NoSQL databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, MongoDB)
  • Hands-on cloud experience, ideally AWS, plus Docker and CI/CD
  • A strong testing mindset, using tools like Jest, React Testing Library, Playwright or Cypress
  • A product-focused approach and clear communication with technical and non-technical colleagues

Preferred Skills

  • Ecommerce or retail experience (checkout, payments, search, promotions)
  • Headless commerce platforms (e.g. commercetools, Shopify Plus) or CMS (Contentful, Sanity)
  • Event-driven architecture with Kafka, SQS/SNS or similar
  • Infrastructure as code (Terraform, CDK)
  • Experimentation tooling (Optimizely, LaunchDarkly) and analytics
  • Accessibility expertise and experience with design systems

Required Skills

  • APIs: GraphQL, REST
  • Testing: Jest, React Testing Library, Playwright

Indicative stack – to be confirmed against the client brief.

Pay range and compensation package

  • Base salary £80,000 – £120,000, depending on experience
  • Annual performance bonus
  • Up to 11% pension
  • Hybrid working from a central London office
  • Private medical insurance and enhanced pension
  • Annual learning budget and conference tickets
