Overview
In this role you will help design and build a brand-new product as part of a cross-functional team. You’ll work closely with Product Managers and engineers to translate ambiguous requirements into solid technical solutions. You will own the end-to-end delivery, shaping architecture, and documenting decisions to guide the product’s evolution. This is a product-engineering-focused contract that offers impact across both backend and frontend domains in a hybrid Manchester setting.
Responsibilities- Design and implement new functionality using Java, Spring Boot, React and TypeScript/JavaScript
- Develop across backend services and modern frontend applications
- Collaborate with Product Managers and multidisciplinary teams
- Clarify and shape requirements into effective technical solutions
- Make architectural decisions around service design, databases, caching, and overall system
- Evaluate approaches and communicate trade-offs
- Create RFCs/ADRs and other technical documentation
- Own delivery from requirements and design through to release
- Challenge requirements to avoid predefined solutions
- 5+ years of commercial software engineering experience
- Strong and recent Java/Spring Boot experience
- Recent frontend development experience, ideally React
- Experience with TypeScript/JavaScript
- Nice-to-have Next.js experience
- Agile, cross-functional product team experience
- Ability to make independent technical decisions and explain rationale
- Experience designing and building new solutions/products
