Overview

In this role you will help design and build a brand-new product as part of a cross-functional team. You’ll work closely with Product Managers and engineers to translate ambiguous requirements into solid technical solutions. You will own the end-to-end delivery, shaping architecture, and documenting decisions to guide the product’s evolution. This is a product-engineering-focused contract that offers impact across both backend and frontend domains in a hybrid Manchester setting.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement new functionality using Java, Spring Boot, React and TypeScript/JavaScript
  • Develop across backend services and modern frontend applications
  • Collaborate with Product Managers and multidisciplinary teams
  • Clarify and shape requirements into effective technical solutions
  • Make architectural decisions around service design, databases, caching, and overall system
  • Evaluate approaches and communicate trade-offs
  • Create RFCs/ADRs and other technical documentation
  • Own delivery from requirements and design through to release
  • Challenge requirements to avoid predefined solutions

Key requirements
  • 5+ years of commercial software engineering experience
  • Strong and recent Java/Spring Boot experience
  • Recent frontend development experience, ideally React
  • Experience with TypeScript/JavaScript
  • Nice-to-have Next.js experience
  • Agile, cross-functional product team experience
  • Ability to make independent technical decisions and explain rationale
  • Experience designing and building new solutions/products
