Functional Systems Engineer – Verification & Certification

In this role you will support the certification of the Land Ceptor Weapon System within a multidisciplinary team. You will verify technical evidence against requirements and help develop documentation to demonstrate compliance across the verification and certification lifecycle. You’ll collaborate with Systems, Mechanical, Electrical and Software teams to identify gaps, assess evidence and drive successful certification. The position offers exposure to complex defence programmes and opportunities to improve V&V processes and automation. This is a hands-on role for an engineer who shapes how certification is achieved in a regulated environment.
Responsibilities- Capture, review and assess technical evidence for certification
- Conduct technical investigations and support delivery of Certificates of Design
- Review technical documentation and evidence related to functional requirements
- Review and approve Design Verification Plans (DVPs)
- Lead/support design reconciliation for changes and obsolescence
- Identify verification gaps and drive resolution
- Support corrective actions for verification/compliance issues
- Prepare and review compliance documentation, verification reports and certification evidence
- Analyse verification evidence and assess compliance against requirements
- Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams (Systems, Mechanical, Electrical, Software)
- Contribute to improvements in V&V and certification processes including automation
- Support the wider engineering team through the lifecycle
- Experience in systems engineering, verification & validation, requirements management or product certification in complex environments
- Experience using IBM Rational DOORS Classic
- Proven ability to analyse evidence and assess compliance against requirements
- Strong understanding of Verification & Validation processes and methodologies
- Experience producing/reviewing compliance documentation and certification evidence
- Experience with requirements management and traceability
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to identify verification gaps and support corrective actions
- Experience within structured engineering development and certification processes
- Confidence working across multidisciplinary teams
- Strong technical documentation and communication skills
- Experience in defence/aerospace or highly regulated environments advantageous
