Functional Systems Engineer – Verification & Certification

As a Functional Systems Engineer in a multidisciplinary certification team, you enable verification and certification of the Land Ceptor Weapon System across UK and Polish programmes. You assess technical evidence against requirements and help produce the documentation to demonstrate compliance. You work with Systems, Mechanical, Electrical and Software teams to close verification gaps and support design changes. Your role blends analysis, documentation, and process improvement to deliver trusted defence capability.

• Capture, review and assess technical evidence for certification
• Conduct technical investigations and support Certificates of Design
• Review technical documentation and evidence for functional requirements
• Review and agree Design Verification Plans (DVPs)
• Lead/support design reconciliation for changes and obsolescence
• Identify verification gaps and track issues to resolution
• Support corrective actions for verification/compliance issues
• Prepare and review compliance documentation and certification evidence
• Analyse verification evidence against requirements
• Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams (Systems, Mechanical, Electrical, Software)
• Contribute to improvements in V&V and certification processes
• Support broader engineering lifecycle activities

• Experience in systems engineering, verification & validation, requirements management or product certification in a complex engineering environment
• Experience with IBM Rational DOORS Classic
• Proven ability to analyse technical evidence and assess compliance
• Strong understanding of V&V processes and methodologies
• Experience producing or reviewing compliance documentation and certification evidence
• Experience with requirements management and traceability
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to identify verification gaps and support corrective actions
• Experience in structured engineering development and certification processes
• Comfort working across multidisciplinary teams
• Strong technical documentation and communication skills
• Experience in defence, aerospace or highly regulated environments (advantageous)
