Gastroenterology Physician

Coverage: Scheduled Clinical Hours Plus Call
EMR: Athena & Meditech
Schedule & Clinical Responsibilities:

• Procedures in the Endoscopy Suite: Mondays, Wednesdays, 1/2 Thursdays, and Fridays.
  
• Outpatient Clinic: Tuesdays and 1/2 Thursdays.
  Daily volume: Approximately patients per shift.
  
• Night call coverage every night with rounding on hospital patient consults.
  
• Call response time required: Within 30 minutes.
  
• Typical 24-hour call activity: 1 2 phone consults, 1 2 patients seen, and 0 admissions.
  
• Estimated callback percentage: 5%.

Required Skills:

• Upper GI endoscopy (with biopsy, foreign body removal, fulguration of bleeder, and injection of varices)
  
• Lower GI endoscopy & Colonoscopy (with biopsy and polyp excision)
  
• Sigmoidoscopy (Flexible and Rigid)
  
• Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG)
  
• Esophageal dilatation
  
• Small bowel biopsy

Requirements:

• MD/DO degree.
  
• Board Certification: Board Certified or Board Eligible in Gastroenterology.
  
• Active Virginia medical license.
  
• Temporary privileges available.

Practice Setting:

• Inpatient & Outpatient
  
• Stroke-certified facility
• 4 beds in department
  
• Support Staff: 2 RNs, 1 NP/PA, 1 MA, and 1 Office Staff member
  
• No APP supervision required
  
• No resident or teaching supervision required
